The largest coastal lagoon of India and the second largest in the world, Chilika spreads over 1100sq kms across three districts in the land of temples and tribal beauty, Odisha. It is also the largest brackish water lake with estuarine character in the world. Fed by over 52 rivers and rivulets, it opens at the Bay of Bengal 32km long channel. The largest winter hub of migratory birds in India, chilika attracts birds of over 160 species from every far-off land on this world including Russia, Mongolia, Siberia and the Himalayas. Chilika shelters various endangered and rare species of insects, birds and animals including the famous Irrawaddy Dolphins that can only be found in chilika and are listed under IUCN as an endangered species. An extremely productive ecosystem and fishery ground, chilika provides as a source of income to more than 2 lakh local fishermen. Counted as a biodiversity hotspot in the world it was declared a ‘Ramsar Conservation award for Bio diversity (a wetland of international importance) in 2002 and shortlisted for tentative list of World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its rich biodiversity.

Mangalajodi located on the eastern part of chilika is otherwise known as the “Birds Paradise of Asia”. Every year, millions of migratory birds congregate here which makes it a dream destination for the bird watchers. Satapada on the banks of the Chilika lake is one of the most popular tourist places in Odisha. It is home to the rarely found Irrawady dolphins. Apart from that the scenic of Sea Mouth, Islands like Nalabana, Rajhans, etc are major tourist attractions due to their scenic beauty. Sea food lovers can enjoy a variety of fishes, Prawns & crabs here.

    Day 01: Mangalajodi

    Arrival Bhubaneswar and transfer to MANGALAJODI, the wetland at northern chilka which is the breeding and nesting  ground for migratory birds.

    Enjoy the country boat ride during Sunset where our boatman will explain you about various unique birds, both migratory and resident. It is worth to mention here that once upon a time these local boatmen were poachers and now with proper motivation, support by Forest Department and a Local NGO they have turned to be the conservator.

    Stay at the community managed Eco Tourism Nature camp by Forest Department.

  • Day 02: Mangalajodi - Rambha

    During early morning take another boat trip to witness the morning activities at the wetland. The sound of birds on the morning sunlight can make you mesmerize and truly an unforgettable experience.

    Back to camp for breakfast and then checkout and proceed to RAMBHA on Chilika lake. Enroute visit Maa Kalijai temple which is the famous Goddess at the lake and all the locals believe that the Maa Kalijai protects them from any mishap at the lake.

    Stay at a hotel overlooking the view of the lake.

    Day 03: Satapada

    Enjoy the breakfast at Breakfast Island (as the name given since english raj)  and then depart for SATAPADA on the other side of the lake by public ferry.

    SATAPADA is known for its Irrawaddy dolphin population and marine eco system as the lake meets the sea here.

    Take the boat trip to visit sea mouth and you may meet dolphins on your way to SATAPADA.

    Also visit the Interpretation center by Chilika Development Authority where you can see a short informative movie about the journey of Chilka lake from Montreux Record list of danger to the prestigious Ramsar awarded site.

    Stay at the Eco camp by the side of the lake.

    Day 04: Puri

    Today we invite you to spend a day with a local fishermen to know about the aged old traditional fishing technique by local community which could be a a memorable experience.

    You may stay a night to visit the villages around or drive to PURI, the holy city by the bay of Bengal  for over night.
