Dussehra in Jagdalpur is celebrated in honour of Sri Danteshwari Mother Goddess. She is highly revered and respected by the tribes. According to local legend she safeguarded the Bastar king from the attackers and gave him protection in the forests. As a mark of their gratitude, the tribes still owe their allegiance to her. The deities from far flung tribal villages are brought to the Temple of Goddesses Danteshwari in Jagdalpur on this day. Jagdalpur is the district capital of Bastar and stands witness to a lot of festivities on the occasion of Dussehra. There are several other customs also that are associated with Dussehra in Chhattisgarh. The presiding deity of the temple is placed in a chariot and all the devotees lend a hand to the rope when the Chariot is pulled. The joy and mirth of these simple tribal people is indeed unlimited. They enjoy themselves thoroughly. It is a time when they get to meet each other and be a part of all the merry making. So do try and get a taste of the pomp and pageantry at the time of Dussehra.

  • Day 01: 16th Oct (Tue): Visakhapatnam

    Arrival Visakhapatnam from Delhi/Mumbai/Hyderabad/Chennai and transfer to hotel.

    Visit the Simanchal temple in the afternoon and take a walk on the popular marine drive. Orientation of the tour by our guide and welcome drink hosted by us.

  • Day 02: 17th Oct (Wed): Desia

    In the morning board the spectacular train ride through the valley and tunnels to Araku (4 HRS) and then by road to DESIA.

    Warm welcome by the local host community. Visit the adopted village and interact with the locals. Back to Desia and stay.

  • Day 03: 18th Oct (Thu): Desia - Bonda Tribe Weekly Market/Desia

    In the morning short excursion to Ounkadelli weekly market to meet most interesting BONDA tribes. Also meet Gadaba, Didayi tribes in this tribal market and afternoon sunset views of DUDUMA waterfall. Overnight stay at DESIA.

  • Day 04: 19th Oct (Fri): Jagdalpur Dussehra Festival

    Morning departure for Jagdalpur to witness the colourful Dussehra festival. overnight stay in a decent hotel.

  • Day 05: 20th Oct (Sat): Jagdalpur & Local

    Visit the colourful market for muria tribes and visit the spectacular chitrakoot waterfall. Overnight stay in Jagdalpur.

  • Day 06: 21st Oct (Sun): Jagdalpur - Excursion To Narayanpur Market

    Today visit the colourful market for abhuj maria and gond tribes. Enroute visit the kondagaon village for bellmetal work and terracotta work, Drive back to Jagdalpur and overnight stay.

  • Day 07: 22nd Oct (Mon): Jagdalpur - Kotapad - Koraput Drop

    Morning visit the kotapad textile village famous and unique for organic dying process. Further proceed to koraput to board the train for Bhubaneswar/Visakhaptanam and onward journey.

The day programme can be revised specially on the day after of dasahara date if the festive activity will continue and more attractive.
