Bastar Dussehera festival 2023

Dussehra festival celebrates every year at Jagdalpur of Chhattisgarh state is the longest festival in India as it celebrates for seventy five days. This festival is all about the tribes, their king and their God and Godesses. This festival attracts various ethnic tribal groups like Bison horn muria and maria, bhatra, Dhurwas. The festival looks like the life of the tribal people of Chhattisgarh state, deeply connected with their beliefs and customs.

This festival brings an opportunity to showcase the authentic music, dance, song, magic and original attire of the indigenous natives. It makes the feeling as if one is participating in the same ritual than four hundred years ago.

Highlights

Chariot procession is the prime highlight of this festival which attracts a good number of ethnic tribal groups such as Bison horn muria, maria, Dhuruba, Gond, kumbhar with their authentic cultural activity like dance and music.

  • Day 01: 16th Oct 23 - Mon: Visakhapatnam

    Arrival Visakhapatnam and transfer to a decent hotel close by the sea. If time permits visit to Seemanchalam temple, a great pilgrim site for a spiritual and cultural experience.

  • Day 02: 17th Oct 23 - Tue: Arakku - Desia koraput

    Take the early morning train ride which is one of the spectacular train rides in India as it rides through high hill valleys, tunnels, hamlets, forest.

    Arrival at the Arakku station and further drive to Desia eco tourism (www.desiakoraput.com). Upon arrival, receive with warm welcome by the Desia team. Afternoon walk to mali tribal village to see their unique agricultural system.

    Overnight stay at Desia.

  • Day 03: 18th Oct 23 - Wed: Nandapur

    Desia and excursion to Nandapur market.

  • Day 04: 19th Oct 20 - Thu: Ounkadelli

    Desia and excursion to Ounkadelli to meet most interesting bonda tribes. Also meet Gadaba, paraja tribes.

  • Day 05: 20th Oct 23 - Fri: Desia

    Desia and hike to various tribal villages of paraja, mali, gadaba, harijan communities to learn and experiencing their indigenous culture.

  • Day 06: 21st Oct 23 - Sat: Jagdalpur

    Today visit the colourful market for Dhurba tribes and cattletrade. Evening enjoy the Dussehra festivity in Jagdalpur. Overnight stay in a decent hotel at Jagdalpur.

  • Day 07: 22nd Oct 23 - Sun: Chitrakoot waterfall

    During day visit the muria tribal village and the soectacular chitrakoot waterfall. Afternoon enjoy the dussehra festival by witnessing cultural activities by the tribes.

  • Day 08: 23 Oct - Mon: Dussehra festival

    Whole day enjoy the colourful Dussehra festival.

  • Day 09: 24 Oct 23 - Tue: Jagdalpur- Rayagada

    Early departure for Rayagada and visit the weekly market for Desiakondh tribes. Enjoy the festive activities around Bissamcuttack areas. Overnight stay in a decent hotel.

  • Day 10: 25th Oct 23 - Wed: Dunguria

    Today meet another indigeneous Dunguria hill tribes at their weekly market in the morning. Afternoon meet tattoo faced kutia kondh tribes at their market and overnight stay in a simple hotel at Baliguda.

  • Day 11: 26 Oct 23 - Thu: Kondh tribal villages

    Morning visit the kondh tribal villages and enjoy the drive through beautiful countryside rural villages and late afternoon transfer to a hotel along the Chilika lagoon.

  • Day 12: 27 Oct 23 - Fri: Puri

    Morning enjoy the birding trip in the wetland to meet various birds in the nature. Further drive to Puri and overnight stay in a home stay or hotel. Enroute visit the craft and painter village.

  • Day 13: 28 Oct 23 - Sat: Puri

    Morning explore Holy city Puri by the national tourism awarded Green rider rickshaw riders to experience the daily happenings.
    Afternoon excursion to konark to witness the world heritage majestoc sun temple. Evening enjoy the luxmi pooja festivity in Puri.

  • Day 14: 29th Oct 23 - Sun: Bhubaneswar and Departure

    Departure for Bhubaneswar to visit the various ancient temples in the old city. Afternoon or evening transfer to airport to board your onward flight.
