It is also the largest brackish water lake with estuarine character in the world. Fed by over 52 rivers and rivulets, it opens at the Bay of Bengal 32km long channel. The largest winter hub of migratory birds in India, chilika attracts birds of over 160 species from every far-off land on this world including Russia, Mongolia, Siberia and the Himalayas. Chilika shelters various endangered and rare species of insects, birds and animals including the famous Irrawaddy Dolphins that can only be found in chilika and are listed under IUCN as an endangered species. An extremely productive ecosystem and fishery ground, chilika provides as a source of income to more than 2 lakh local fishermen. Counted as a biodiversity hotspot in the world it was declared a ‘Ramsar CONSERVATION AWARD IN 2002’ (a wetland of international importance). It was awarded by UNESCO for its rich biodiversity and is a major tourist attraction for thousands of birdwatchers and nature lovers every year.

Mangalajodi located on the eastern part of chilika is otherwise known as the “Birds Paradise of Asia”. Every year, millions of migratory birds congregate here which makes it a dream destination for the bird watchers.   • Udayagiri-khandagiri-Caves

    Day 01: Bhubaneswar

    Arrival Bhubaneswar and a Warm Welcome at your port of arrival to Odisha.

    Local sightseeing tour based on the time availability as per your arrival. Sunset at Khandagiri Jain caves where our guide will brief you the itinerary and other related information.

    Learn the history of Kalinga and Utkal as you enjoy the light and sound show at the Dhabagiri Peace Pagoda at the bank of Daya river where King Ashoka fought Kalinga war and adopted non violence.

    Back to hotel  after dinner at a local restaurant.

    Day 02: Mangalajodi

    Early morning depart for Mangalajodi village, the wetlands of Chilika lake which is the  winter heaven for migratory birds who comes  for nesting at the grasslands. ENJOY the hand rowing boat ride through the creeks where you may meet large numbers of migratory and local resident spices of birds which is a treat for any nature lover. It is worth mention here, that the boat men here were poachers once upon a time and after due motivation of local NGO and  forest department, they are now the conservators for these birds paradise.

    After few memorable hours at Mangalajodi, depart for SATAKOSIA gorge at the bank of Mahanadi where you will have an unique experience of staying at the tents on the sandy beach of river Mahandai.This is another  successful initiative  of  Forest Department for eco tourism where the local community runs the eco camp and the beneifit of tourism goes to the local community as an  alternative livelihood  rather than adding pressure to the forest.

    Enjoy the sunset boat trip at the gorge and back to camp. Enjoy Bonfire, local cultural programme followed by dinner.

    Day 03: Bhitrakanika

    In the morning the forest guide will join you for a nature walk to the nearby forest and back to camp for breakfast.

    After breakfast depart for BHITARAKANIKA national park and mangrove forest. En route  visit the famous Odishan Textile weaving village.

    Arrival Bhitrakanika during evening and stay at the Eco Tents set by the Forest Department  or other property as per availability.

    Day 04: Bhitarkanika National Park

    All day long trip into the park to enjoy the beauty of Mangrove forests and boat ride in creeks to meet large numbers of Kingfishers and crocodiles at the river delta.

    Also you can take a nice hike in one of the island which was once upon a time the hunting garden for the local king.

    Back to camp after sunset from the boat.

    Day 05: Konark - Puri

    After breakfast depart for PURI via Konark, the world heritage site repute Suntemple which is a must see while you are in Odisha.

    Our story teller will take you around this 13th century gem of odishan architecture where you can see the how the language of stone defeats the language of human.

    Stay at the Eco tents at the BALUKHAND forest near PURI or stay at a hotel at Konark.

    Day 06: Satapada At Chillika

    Donot miss the sunrise at the very special virgin beach near your camp where you may have the entire beach exclusively for you. Take a bicycle ride in the trails of Balukhand forest and then depart for SATAPADA at Chilika lake.

    Visit the interpretation center at Satapada where you will learn about the eco system and conservation methods for this Ramsar awarded biggest Brackish water lake of Asia.

    Stay at the Eco camp by the side of the lake.

    Day 07: Satapada - a day with fisherman

    Today we intend to give you some authentic experience with the local community as you spend a day with fishermen.

    Your dinner depends upon what you bring from the lake.

    Enjoy the sunset by the lake and bonfire with local music.

  • Jagannath-Temple

    Day 8 : Puri - Bhubaneswar

    Depart for Bhubaneswar via Puri where you have a Darshan of Lord Jagarnnath (entry only for Hindu) and Lunch from the temple. Proceed to Raghurajpur, the artisan village where you may buy some hand made local souvenir directly from the crafts man.

    Board the evening flight /train for onward journey.
